Yep, it's time for another project from my August EXPRESS Card Class!

           

This time, I was inspired by Cindy Russell.  She's another fabulous stamper on our Ink, Inc. Team and this was her swap card at our August Team Gathering.  I LOVE IT!!  The only thing I changed was using a straight ribbon across the front instead of a knot-bow as Cindy used.  The polka dots and stripes work so well together and it's such a friendly, happy card! 

We received both of these stamp sets (It's Your Day and Raining Flowers) FREE while at Convention in Utah this July:

     
The colors used are Melon Mambo, Elegant Eggplant and Old Olive.  Have you checked out the Patterned Designer Series Paper Stacks?  These are LOADED with sheets of Designer Paper - this is what I used for the striped paper.

Okay...now for another project from my August EXPRESS Card Class!

     

This is SUCH a simple card!  But it packs PUNCH with texture.  Randomly stamp an image of your choice all over a piece of neutral cardstock (I chose Whisper White) then run it through the Big Shot using an Embossing Folder of your choice.  Attach to Basic Black Cardstock then wrap some Black Polka Dot Ribbon around the panel.  Attach to a Whisper White folded card.  I created the greeting by punching out a Wide Oval from scrap Basic Black and sliding it UNDER the ribbon.  I stamped the image on scrap of Whisper White using Black StazOn (my favorite black ink) then punched out using the Scalloped Oval Punch.  I attached this with 2 Dimensionals then added two Basic Rhinestones.  That's IT!!  Thank you to Tammie Morton for the idea - she sent me a card that I loved and recreated with a few minor changes.  Hope you love it!

Supplies Used: Elements of Style and Perfect Punches stamp sets; Basic Black and Whisper White Cardstocks; Basic Black Polka Dot Ribbon; Wide Oval and Scalloped Oval Punches; Dimensionals; Black StazOn; Big Shot; Houndstooth Embossing Folder; Basic Rhinestones.

August Card Class - Perfect Pennants

I'm a bit gaga over scallops - ranks right up there with polka-dots for me.  The scallops I'm referring to are land-based - while I will eat a scallop if in the right "seafood mood", we're going in a different direction this time.  This card is embellished nicely with scallops and I just LOVE this color combo.  It's clean, bright, and fresh!

          

The Big Shot is a focal point of this project because we used it to create the two layers of scalloped circles (Perfect Pennants die) along with the large Pretty in Pink Circle (Circles #2 Die).  The Big Shot is kinda like my right-arm these days.  I use it ALL OF THE TIME and don't know HOW I ever got along without it!!

I started with the Flirtacious Specialty Designer Paper and picked colors from that.  The pattern I chose featured Melon Mambo, Pretty in Pink, and Pumpkin Pie.  I stuck with Whisper White for that extra POP and added some Whisper White Organza Ribbon.  Don't forget Dimensionals!  They add so much...Dimension!!  Ü  The main stamp set is Delicate Doilies...a newbie from the 2011-12 Idea Book & Catalog.  It was created to coordinate with the Flirtacious Designer Paper.  I LOVE how Stampin' Up! coordinates their images with the products - simply genious!

God Bless each honoree, hero, and family member of those that fell 10 years ago today.  My heart goes out to each and every one.  I pray that our country will head in the right direction to provide a hand up vs. a hand-out; to lead and teach vs. frustrate and dictate; to empower the people vs. empower the government. 

I hope the sun is shining everywhere today - make it a great day.

 

Ink, Inc. Team Events

I LOVE getting together with other stampers.  There is such a sense of camaraderie and fun in the room.  NO OTHER group is like this - truly!  Our last Ink, Inc Team Gathering was held in August - we stamp, see great demos, swap, chat, and catch up with each other.  There was a pretty large group of ladies in my basement which adds to the excitement!

     

Above are the two make-n-takes we made this day.  The project on the left was one I put together.  This features the new Leaves of a Tree stamp and the New Early Espresso Quilted Ribbon from the Holiday Mini Catalog.  It's a simple card to make that would work for any reason or season.

The second project was offered by Kathy Howes.  It uses the My Friend stamp set from the NEW 2011-12 Idea Book and Catalog.  Love the detail with the butterflies and Basic Rhinestones!

Inspiration - Take 2

Two days ago I shared a project that featured inspiration from a swap I received.  Today's inspiration comes from an idea featured in a recent Stampin' Success Magazine - this is the monthly magazine that we get as demonstrators from Stampin' Up!  I made the card on the right as thank-you's for those who helped out during my August Team Event.  It came straight from the Stampin' Success, although I changed up the punched scallop (couldn't fine my dotted trim border punch...finally located it!) and the greeting plus the size of the card.  Otherwise, the colors (River Rock, Marina Mist, Pumpkin Pie), layout, featured stamp set (Field Flowers, Dot Dot Dot, Hodgepodge Happiness (it's retired! and for sale!)), etc. are the same.  Love that!

 

The card on the left is a swap I made that mirrors the originally inspired card.  See what I mean about inspiration?  Here, I changed up the colors, stamp set (Merry & Type) and textures (Snow Burst Embossing Folder).  But the card layout is exactly the same.  This was a simple card to make; I just used some extra texture with the Embossing Folder and Ribbon fringe.  Of course I used one of my favorite color combos:  Crumb Cake, Early Espresso, and Cherry Cobbler.  Delicious!!!

 

This will likely be one of the card options featured at my Christmas Card Workshop on October 15th.  This is a FREE Event where you come choose the card you'd like to make for Christmas, order the necessary supplies (I choose cards that are simpler to make and keep the cost per card between $.75 and $1.50...one cannot come CLOSE to beating that with a store-bought card that even compares to the beauties you can make on your own - plus it's FUN!) and then I CUT THE SUPPLIES FOR YOU!!!  In November, we meet again for the stamp day.  You may use any of my non-consumable supplies that you don't have to complete your card design.  By the end of the day, ALL of your Christmas Cards are ready to go!  You must RSVP for this event, so e-mail me or click on the RSVP link on this page.

In the past, I've had queries about posting the Christmas Card ideas on my Blog.  In addition, I've had requests for samples to be sent that were the requester's favorites so that they could be seen in-person before choosing.  While I cannot accommodate this second request, I am going to offer a change regarding the first request.  Read on...

For Distance Stampers and those who cannot attend my scheduled date/times (Saturday October 15th; 10am-Noon AND 2-4pm), I will offer this opportunity:

• On Sunday, October 16th, I'll post ALL TEN of the ideas on my blog, along with the list of supplies needed to make them.  Keep in mind the list MAY NOT include other non-comsumable supplies - we can go over this once you've made your selection to alter your order as needed.
• If you are local (within 1 hour away from me) but are unable to attend the Christmas Card Workshop Part 2 (Saturday, November 12th), you may pick up your cut supplies at a pre-arranged time (after November 12th). 
• If you are a Distance Stamper, I will cut/send to you the supplies for your card.  The cost of shipping will vary depending on weight/size of what is sent to you. 
• With ANY OPTION, complete color instructions are included with your project (sent via e-mail).

Admittedly, some cards look MUCH BETTER in person than in a picture, so it's best if you can be here in person.  However, this is a wonderful option for those that cannot attend.  Remember, the featured cards are all wonderful!  I hand-select them myself for the greatest opportunity of successful stamping and assembly.

Inspiration

Inspiration for cards, gifts, projects, scrapbooking...you name it; it comes from many sources - other stampers!  My main resource is Stampin' Connection and Stampin' Success.  Both are perks of being part of the Stampin' Up! Family - Stampin' Up! gives us so many great ideas...then there are the 1000's of ideas shared by other stampers.

          

The card shown above (on the left) is one we are making THIS WEDNESDAY at my next EXPRESS Card Class - still time to sign up (RSVP due by Tuesday at 5pm)!  Only $12 or $20 (4 or 8 cards respectively) for a fun evening with four unique designs that are LOVELY plus door prizes AND a few hours away just for you.  The card on the right was the inspiration.  Kathy Howes, one of my Ink, Inc. teammates, shared this with me and I love it!  I didn't have paper like hers, so decided to feature the NEW Spice Cake Designer Paper (from the 2011 Holiday Mini Catalog) and Stitched Velvet Ribbon.  But it's the same layout and the inspiration came from Kathy's card.  I don't typically swap at my team events (just don't have the time to get them together), but Kathy shared her swap with me.  Thank you, Kathy!

     

Did you notice something different about the Basic Rhinestones on this card?  They are colored!  Want to know the secret?  Here you go...Sharpies!!  Color them with your favorite Sharpie (must be a permanent ink and Sharpies work fabulous) while still attached to the paper backing.  Then apply them just like normal onto your project (I use a Hobby Blade or Paper Snips to grab them...keeps them from getting lost if picking up with my fingers).  Voila'!

 

Most stampers readily share their ideas and others charge for their ideas and patterns.  I'm in the former-category...I will NOT charge for ideas - I just won't.   The only events I charge for are my monthly Classes and twice-a-year Stamp Camps (my Stamp Camps are BIG events).  The fee goes towards my time to put the projects together, get the supplies, and for the supplies themselves.  I pretty much break even on these events but I do love doing them - they are my favorite!  My next Stamp Camp is Saturday, September 24th - don't miss this once-a-year Holiday-themed event!!   

My in-home workshops (your home or mine) are zero-charge plus everyone gets to make at least one project.  As the HOSTESS, you rake in delightful goodies (based on sales for your event, so it always a good idea to invite lots of guests) and with the NEW Hostess Program, you gets much more flexibility and MORE TREATS!!!

Newsprint Cards

Using newsprint Designer Papers as the focal point or background of a project is quite trendy at the moment.  I really enjoy this "vintage" look, particularly when color is added to the print either by overstamping or sponging color to part of the newsprint image (as seen in the left-hand example below).

I added a quick greeting to these cards - they feature a retired image, but any bold greeting would work well here - stands up to the busy-ness of the print without overpowering.  Let the newsprint speak for itself...great for simple and quick projects!!

Have You Scored Lately?
