Bottle Cap Necklace

I saw this idea for the first time while at Convention.  My friend Kimberly was wearing one that her friend, Cathy, made for her.  It's vintage and versatile - add charms and ribbons to the area around the bottle cap for an embellished version. 

        

I found the ribbon/cord necklaces and smashed bottle caps online for a very reasonable cost.  I decided to go with pre-smashed bottle caps to save some time - did try smashing my own REAL bottle caps, but they really didn't look all that swift.  Prefer the look of these.

These are SO easy - simply stamp your image onto paper of your choice (we used Mocha Morning Specialty Designer Paper using the crown from Established Elegance or the wren from Clearly for You - many images will work nicely) using Black StazOn.  You MUST use this ink or it will smear. 

Next, punch out the image using the 1" Circle Punch and securely anchor into the bottle cap.  Place a Basic Rhinestone on image as desired.  Then, gently cover completely (going around the rhinestone) with Crystal Effects (never shake Crystal Effects because you will cause bubbles to be in your project).  DO NOT FILL to the top, as it uses way too much Crystal Effects and it's unnecessary, plus it will take a really long time to dry.

Once dry, spritz with Champagne Shimmer Paint-alcohol mixture.  Lovely!!!!

Robin...My Muse

Robin Merriman is a dear friend of mine and she inspires me every time we share ideas.  Today's project came from an idea she shared - I did tweek it to work with Christmas.  Here was the final piece.  I love the vintage look and feel to this card.  Cherry Cobbler Ink can be a bit "smeary" if you're not careful - but this added to the vintage look and to the charm.  It was a perfect color choice.

    

Below is what I started with - it wasn't quite what I was looking for, so switched it up a bit to what you see above.  The card above ended up being the Christmas Card we made at my Annual Holiday Stamp Camp.  What do you think?

Another Stamp Camp Project to Share

How about another Stamp Camp project?  This twice-a-year event is always a treat.  I already shared the deco-block earlier this month and would like to show you another project we made.

        

This year, instead of featuring just Christmas projects, I added a Thanksgiving project that would be perfect for the Thanksgiving dinner table as placecards or simply display a vase with a bunch of them inside (treats for guests to take home!). 

Start with our 1"x8" Cellophane Bags (Holiday Mini Catalog: 50 for $2.50) and fill them with candies of your choice.  I used the autumn m&m's - the colors worked great!.  Seal the top then tie it off with Linen Thread. 

Create a tag using the delicious Spice Cake Designer Paper (my favorite...I will absolutely miss this paper when the Holiday Mini Catalog expires - be sure to attend my Pimp Your Card Box class in November to make gorgeous projects with this paper) and coordinating colors: Pool Party, More Mustard, Sahara Sand, Soft Suede and Very Vanilla.  This new Gently Falling stamp set is stunning...and SOOOO easy to use with the clear blocks!!  Perfect alignment!!  We popped up cut-out acorns and added a button plus 1/8" Vanilla Taffeta Ribbon.  Don't forget to add the paper piercing using the Piercing Tool and Mat Pack (to get a straight, even line).

October 18th EXPRESS Card Class

Happy Monday!

I had to reschedule last week's class - the day was just falling apart!  So...the NEW DATE, is Tuesday, October 18th!  Click here for all the details - do RSVP by Monday at 3pm in order to attend.

Here are two examples from September's Class.  The quality of cards you make is second-to-none...and there is CHOCOLATE on hand!  ;-D 

    

    

The top card features the lovely NEW Wisteria Wonder married with Pink Pirouette and Concord Crush.  It's a GORGEOUS combo!  We used My Friend stamps - also a new set.  Add pizzazz to a card by cutting off 1" or so from the end, then decorating it with a border punch.  Make sure the top greeting panel overlaps the end (be CAREFUL to ONLY put adhesive on the parts that will be attached to the card) and you have yourself a more unique layout to your card.

The bottom card features the sweet Leaves of aTree stamp (Holiday Mini Catalog...limited time availability!).  We embossed it with a mixture of Whisper White AND Irridescent Ice Embossing Powders.  You can add some texture to the card by crumpling up the Mocha Morning Designer Paper.  Don't skimp on the details, either...we used the Early Espresso Quilted Ribbon plus Basic Pearls and spritzed the whole card with Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint-mixture (using 60-70% ethyl rubbing alcohol).

Christmas Card Workshop ~ Part 1

Greetings!  For those that could not attend yesterday's Christmas Card Workshop ~ Part 1 Event (click here for full details on the original event), I'm posting all of the cards and details here, woohoo!  This is the 4th year for this event and it's a wonderfully fun way of getting your Christmas cards made BEFORE Thanksgiving.  One less thing to worry about during the busy holiday season!  :-)  And this year, I'm offering a "virtual" option to participate, whether you are local or far away from me.

OPTION 1
Order the supplies noted (through me...NOT as an online-order) on the Worksheet (all price-per-card amounts include the 10% shipping and 8.6% tax) for your desired card(s), designating the quantity that you'd like to make.  Orders will be shipped here and I'll cut the supplies for you.  You may either attend the Christmas Card Workshop ~ Part 2 on November 12th (click here for details) OR I will ship the supplies to you (shipping is extra).  Either way, you will receive full-color, detailed instructions on how to make your card.  If you are not attending the Workshop ~ Part 2, then be aware that you will likely need further supplies to complete your card.  Those attending in person may borrow mine if they don't have them (ie: Big Shot, dies, punches, extra stamp sets, etc.).

Cupcakes!

Cupcakes are all the rage right now - they are cute, sweet and delicious.  Plus, they make a delightful focus on cards and projects.

     

I was inspired to make this card from one of my Muses (Robin!!) - I changed up the colors, but the basic idea is there.  This card has texture, layers and fun colors.  We made this at my September EXPRESS Card Class...you still have time to sign up for the October 12th Class!  Click here for the details and to RSVP.

Start by folding the Daffodil Delight Cardstock in 1/2 and running the top half through the Big Shot (get one FREE when you join my Ink, Inc. Team this month!) using the NEW Stripes Embossing Folder (123128  $7.95).

Create the ribbon/banner by stamping the Easy Events (123225-Clear  $24.95 or 116958-Wood  $32.95) onto Whisper White Cardstock.  Create the scallops by punching out a Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border from a long scrap piece of Lucky Limeade Cardstock.  Cut in in 1/2 and tape along each long side of the Whisper White Cardstock.  Cut a notch in the end, cutting through all layers. 

Attach to the folded card and color in the cupcake image using Stampin' Write Markers (Daffodil Delight, Island Indigo and Lucky Limeade).  Add swirls of Dazzling Details Glitter Glue (124117  $2.50 - Holiday Mini Catalog) to the frosting. 

Tie a bow from some Lucky Limeade Ruffled Ribbon (122977  $9.95) and attach to the bottom of the banner using Mini Glue Dots (103683  $4.95)

Sweet Louie

Recently, Wendy's sweet Louie passed away.  Louie was Wendy's dog in all ways.  He was a big bassett hound who was her lap dog - a funny sight!  Louie was a rescue and Wendy got him after he was de-barked.  Even though Louie had no voice so-to-speak, he did "sing" every time Wendy's daughter played the piano.  He was also famous for picking up a purse, backback, bag, etc. and BOLTING for the doggie door.  It was hilarious to watch Louie run with a bag dragging off to the side of him.  This was a dog with personality to spare and he is missed.

     

I have no doubt that you'll always have Louie in your heart, Wendy.  Love you, Girlfriend!

 

Simple Doily Card

I love this card.  It is SO simple to make, yet it's stunning due to the simplicity.  We made this at my August EXPRESS Card Class - read on for the details on this card.

 

Tone-on-tone is really hot right now and I love to utilize this trend.  Ink up the Hello, Doily stamp (122845  $17.95 wood mount only) in River Rock Ink (109010  $5.95).  Place the 4x5 1/4" Very Vanilla Cardstock on top of the inked stamp and cover with scrap paper.  Rub to stamp.

Next, overstamp the stems/flowers from the Field Flowers (122762   $17.95 for clear-mount; $24.95 for wood-mount) stamp set.  I used Concord Crush Ink (119785  $5.95).  Stamp greeting (from same set).

TIP:  I do NOT use the sticker on stem stamps - they stick much better to the clear blocks without the labels and are unnecessary for placement of these images.

Use the Mat Pack(105826  $9.95)/Paper Piercer (116631  $3.50) - aka: Eye Poker-Outer - to poke 3 holes.  Insert Silver Brads (104336  $6.95 for 200).

Attach to folded Very Vanilla Card (101650  $8.50 for 40 sheets) using Dimensionals (104430  $3.95).

If you'd like, you can spritz with a mixture of Rubbing Alcohol (65-70% ONLY) and Champagne Shimmer paint (116806  $5.95).  Gotta love simple!!!

Scallop Trim Border and Pinking Hearts Border Punches + Corners

I've had several requests for these measurements, so thought I'd post them here for all to see.  Thank you to Gretchen for sharing these measurements for both of these punches.  PLEASE NOTE: the measurements differ for each punch.

For both Border Punch designs, the EXACT measurement is important.  In some cases, we are working with 1/16" measurements, so I recommend using our 12" Paper Cutter (104152  $24.95), as the measurements are clear and easy to read.  Onto the details...

Scallop Trim Border Punch + Corner

Here are the measurements for the STARTING SIZE of the cardstock.  Remember, be precise with your measuring.  If you'd like to make a rectangle, use two measurements. 

• 4 3/4" makes a square that has 10 scallops along each side
• 4 1/4" makes a square that has 9 scallops on each side
• 3 13/16" (just a hair bigger than 3 3/4") makes a square that has 8 scallops along each side. This is the size that fits perfectly into the guide that is printed on the Scallop Trim Border Punch and therefore makes this a great size to practice on. Once you get this size down, it will be easier to branch-off and make your squares smaller or larger.
• 3 1/4" makes a square than has 7 scallops along each side
• 2 7/8" makes a square that has 6 scallops on each side
• 2 3/8" makes a square that has 5 scallops on each side
• And then, the original smallest square that I described above begins with a square that is 1 15/16" and uses only the corner punch

      

Punching Process

• Punch the corners first - use the Paper Guide on the front for your first corner to get an idea on placement of the cardstock in the punch.  When you turn it over, you'll see that there is a SLIGHT gap between the blade and the cardstock.  Maintain this gap on each corner so your edges are straight and the scallops line up all the way across the cardstock.

      

• Once the 4 corners are punched, punch the straight edges using the corner guides on the front as your placement guide. 

          

• For pieces that are longer than the guides, you'll start off using the corner guide on the front, then turn the punch over so you're looking at it from the bottom.  It's VERY important to line up the edge of the cardstock evenly along the bottom, leaving the same slight gap between the blade and the cardstock as you did when punching the corners.  This will ensure a straight edge and complete scallops.

 

• Practice a few times on scrap cardstock (use cardstock, not regular paper) - you'll get a feel for it quickly.

 

Of course there are more measurements that will work beyond those listed here - double the measurements to make larger pieces (scrapbook pages, for example). 

Pinking Hearts Border Punch + Corner

Here are the measurements for the STARTING SIZE of the cardstock. Remember, be precise with your measuring. If you'd like to make a rectangle, use two measurements.

• 2 7/8"
• 3 1/4"
• 3 5/8"
• 4"
• 4 3/8"
• 4 3/4"

To make larger sizes, simply increase by 3/8".  When viewing from the bottom side of the punch, line up the points, not the hearts.
